Skateboarding Patches are Cool
Stickers are okay. They’re synonymous with skateboarding. Skaters use them on their deck, their helmets (if they ever have to wear them), and everything else they own from guitars to water bottles. But stickers don’t show as much dedication as an embroidered patch. A custom patch requires ab it of effort to affix to something. Those who take the time to sew a patch onto their clothing or backpack will reap the rewards, however. Patches are cool, and they demand a certain amount of respect. And poser can slap some Thrasher stickers on their car. The real skaters slap some patches on their gear.
How to Use Patches
There are two types of patches you can find. Iron-on patches are much easier to use but are less durable. They have a glue-backing that is activated by the heat of an iron. Iron-on patches are great for lightly used gear, like a hat, that isn’t bent or washed very often. If you want a patch on something like a shirt, pants, or a backpack, then a sew-on patch is a better choice. They take a bit more work to attach, but they sure won’t be coming off any time soon. If you’re too lazy to learn how to sew, enlist your mom or grandma. Alternatively, you can take your patch to your local dry cleaner, as they often offer sewing services.
